A Message from Evan Correa
Chief Steward Clerk Craft
Brothers and Sisters,
I’ve been with the Postal Service since 2009. I started as a casual, became a PSE, and have proudly served as a Clerk for over 13 years. I understand this job from the ground up because I live it every day. The union is also part of my family.
My father, Jose Correa, was a union member for over 30 years. Growing up around that example taught me early that unions exist to protect working people. Fighting for workers and standing on principle is something that has always been part of my life.
Throughout my career, I have made it my responsibility to fight for the bargaining unit. I have helped employees get paid what they are owed, ensured stewards receive proper time, and worked through the RI-399 process to protect jobs. I serve on the Safety Committee, and when employees are mistreated, I make sure they have representation.
I go out to auxiliary offices and support our members wherever they need help. One thing I want to be clear about. I do not cut deals with management. A union steward must be willing to fight. This position requires someone who has skin in the game and is willing to stand firm on the contract. I do not trade away rights, and I do not let management off the hook. My responsibility is to enforce the contract and protect the membership. I also want to speak directly about leadership.
I proudly support our current President, Xaviare Reed, and our current Secretary-Treasurer, Tammy Savage.
I support President Reed because he brings knowledge, skill, and a deep understanding of the contract. He is willing to stand firm, apply the contract correctly, and put that knowledge to work for the membership. He leads with strength and experience, and he understands what it takes to defend our rights.
I support Secretary-Treasurer Savage because she is committed to doing the job correctly and efficiently. She works hard with the resources available, focuses on accuracy and accountability, and ensures the business side of our union is handled responsibly. That stability and dedication matter.
Leadership matters. Direction matters. Unity matters.
At the same time, I am an active employee and an active steward. I am on the floor every day, dealing with management in real time and seeing the issues as they happen. That daily involvement matters because representation is not just about knowledge, it is about presence and engagement.
I have a long career ahead of me, and I am committed to the future of this union. That means continuing to fight, continuing to enforce the contract, and continuing to educate our members. We need more membership, more stewards, and more knowledge. Every employee should understand their rights and know that APWU Local 232 has their back. I serve the people of this union. I have no interest in serving myself. My focus is making sure employees are treated fairly, paid properly, and represented the way they deserve.
The future of this union is important. I believe in the direction we are moving, and I am ready to continue that work as your Vice President.
Respectfully,
Evan Correa
Chief Steward
