Brothers and Sisters,
I ask you to please support and vote for President Xaviare Reed.
We still have a lot of work to do, but we have made some great progress over this past year. Local 232 is no longer little more than a glorified social club. We have recruited and trained many stewards and brought on people to get involved. Our website has gained recognition by the National APWU, our email newsletter is a success, and our Vindicator newsletter has more information than it had for years.
Gone are the days of opening the Vindicator only to read about the weather, pickleball, and complaints about members. None of this progress would have been possible without Xaviare Reed as President.
That said, it is ridiculous that we are going through our third election in a year – continuing to waste our union dues in the process. Every single one of us is footing the bill for the losing candidates to re-run this election not just once, but twice now.
I hope you remember that when it comes time to fill out your ballots. I also want to go on record and let you all know that it was my complaint that got retired candidates banned from campaigning on postal property.
You may ask me, “why?” I, knew them campaigning on postal property was a violation of DOL-OLMS regulations, but one day I finally had enough during the second election.
The final straws were the defamatory flyers posted about Xaviare’s personal life, and retirees campaigning at Citygate during a power outage. I sent an email out to Labor Relations, and all the way up to USPS HQ, and it did not take long for retiree candidates to be banned from campaigning in postal facilities.
Local Management was more than happy to allow them in the building to campaign that whole time – Management seemingly wanted the other “team” to win. In fact, we had Supervisors campaigning against Xaviare during service talks and even threatening to take away employees’ overtime if Xaviare won. We still have Supervisors effectively campaigning against Xaviare on the workroom floor to employees to this day and hoping that he will lose. Likewise, we have heard stories about some of the Postmasters at the Associate Offices that tried to convince their own employees to vote against Xaviare.
Keep this in mind when you vote – Management does not want you to vote for Xaviare Reed. I therefore ask you to vote against Management, and to please vote for President Xaviare Reed.
In Solidarity,
Cameron Taylor
